Acknowledge your and others’ range of linguistic differences as resources, and draw on these resources to develop rhetorical sensibility.
My group within this class consisted of two computer scientists and two mechanical engineers, which are fairly different majors. In general, I felt like my major was the outcast of the majors within the class as their majors are physical and tangible whereas mine is more digital and intangible. Thus, when my group and I had to write our engineering proposal, there was definitely linguistic differences between us. Nusayba and I are computer science majors while Fernando and Kymani are mechanical engineering majors, so while we were working on our project there was definitely a disconnect. For example, Nusayba and I as the computer science majors were a majority of the creative force behind our website and presentation, while Fernando and Kymani as the mechanical engineers were the driving force behind the diagrams and models. However, since we all contributed research and information to our project, we all successfully collaborated to create the proposal for our smart thermostat. We all retained knowledge about HVAC systems and how the different sensors worked, so we all learned together.
