Genre is the kind of writing you are doing. In this class, we engaged with several genres of writing. We interacted with memos, technical descriptions, lab reports, PSAs, technical proposals, etc.

Throughout this semester, we engaged with the genres listed above, and observed them through the genre analysis work we did. We commented on all of the rhetorical elements for each assignment type, and this commentary really helped me understand my assignments more. This was a way for me to see what an assignment is really like before I write, not just from reading it but by interacting with it as well. Me doing these genre analyses taught me what does and doesn’t include the genre conventions for an assignment, so therefore I believe I did do better on my assignments than I would have without the analyses.
